Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of the sugar. Set aside.
  3. In another large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, remaining sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange half of the apple slices on top. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple slices.
  7. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
