Torta Di Mele
Torta di Mele is a traditional Italian apple cake that is packed with sweet, fresh apples and a hint of cinnamon. It's perfect for a dessert or a sweet treat with your afternoon tea.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 1 and 1/2 cups
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Eggs - 2
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Apples - 3 large, peeled and sliced
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of the sugar. Set aside.
- In another large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, remaining sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange half of the apple slices on top. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple slices.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
