Tomato Sauce for Pizza
This homemade tomato sauce is perfect for topping your homemade pizza. It's made with fresh tomatoes, herbs, and spices for a delicious and flavorful sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Tomatoes - 6 large, ripe
Let's Get Started
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Score a small 'X' on the bottom of each tomato.
- Place the tomatoes in the boiling water for about 1 minute, then transfer them to a bowl of ice water to cool.
- Peel the skin off the tomatoes and remove the cores. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces.
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sauce for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before using it as a topping for your homemade pizza.
