Tarte Tatin
Tarte Tatin is a classic French upside-down caramelized apple tart.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vanilla ice cream - For serving
- Puff pastry - 1 sheet, thawed if frozen
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup
- Granulated sugar - 1 cup
- Apples - 6 large, peeled, cored, and halved
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves and turns golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from heat and carefully arrange the apple halves, cut side down, in the caramel.
- Return the skillet to medium heat and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the apples to soften slightly.
- Place the puff pastry sheet over the apples, tucking the edges down into the skillet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate, allowing the caramelized apples to be on top.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
