Tamagoyaki
Tamagoyaki is a sweet, fluffy Japanese omelette that's popular for breakfast, in bento lunch boxes, and as a sushi topping.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - A pinch
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Eggs - 4
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, beat the eggs. Add the sugar, soy sauce, mirin, and salt, and mix well.
- Heat the oil in a tamagoyaki pan (or a small rectangular or round non-stick frying pan) over medium-high heat.
- Pour a thin layer of egg mixture in the pan, tilting to cover the bottom of the pan. When the egg is half done, roll it up towards one end of the pan with a spatula.
- Pour another thin layer of egg mixture in the pan, lifting the rolled omelette to let the mixture flow underneath. When the new layer of egg is half done, roll the omelette over to the other end of the pan.
- Repeat the process until all the egg mixture is used.
- Remove the omelette from the pan and let it cool. Then slice it into 1/2-inch pieces and serve.
