- Sub rolls - 4
- Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
- Heavy cream - 1/2 cup
- Beef broth - 2 cups
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Allspice - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Egg - 1
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1/2 medium, finely chopped
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Ground pork - 1/2 pound
- Ground beef - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, salt, black pepper, and allspice. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth, heavy cream, and Dijon mustard. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side intact. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on one side of each roll.
- Fill each roll with the Swedish meatballs and spoon some of the creamy gravy over the meatballs.
- Place the subs on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are toasted.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
