Swedish Meatball Subs

Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, salt, black pepper, and allspice. Mix until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, heavy cream, and Dijon mustard. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side intact. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on one side of each roll.
  9. Fill each roll with the Swedish meatballs and spoon some of the creamy gravy over the meatballs.
  10. Place the subs on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are toasted.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
