Spanakopita
Spanakopita is a traditional Greek dish made with spinach and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo dough. It's a delicious and healthy appetizer or main course.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Phyllo dough - 1 pound
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Feta cheese - 1 cup, crumbled
- Spinach - 2 pounds, chopped
- Garlic cloves - 2, minced
- Onions - 2, chopped
- Olive oil - 1/4 cup
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook until soft.
- Add the spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the spinach mixture, feta cheese, and beaten eggs.
- Brush a baking dish with some of the melted butter. Lay a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish, and brush with more butter. Repeat with half of the phyllo sheets.
- Spread the spinach and cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Top with the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each one with butter as before.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crispy.
