Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce

- Grated parmesan cheese - For serving
- Fresh basil leaves - For garnish
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 28 ounces
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Spaghetti - 8 ounces
Let's Get Started
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the cooked spaghetti topped with the marinara sauce.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
