Sicilian Calzone
A delicious folded pizza filled with cheese and other ingredients, originating from Sicily.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Olive oil - For brushing
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Spinach - 1 cup, cooked and drained
- Italian sausage - 1/2 pound, cooked and crumbled
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Ricotta cheese - 1 cup
- Pizza dough - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle.
- On one half of the dough, spread the ricotta cheese, leaving a border around the edge.
- Top the ricotta with the mozzarella, Parmesan, sausage, and spinach. Season with salt and pepper.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
- Brush the top of the calzone with the beaten egg and a little olive oil.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the calzone is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
