Shrimp and Grits
This classic Southern dish features succulent shrimp served over creamy grits.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Lemon - 1, sliced
- Bacon - 4 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Green onions - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Cajun seasoning - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Heavy cream - 1/2 cup
- Chicken broth - 2 cups
- Grits - 1 cup
- Shrimp - 1 pound, peeled and deveined
Let's Get Started
- In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil.
- Slowly whisk in the grits and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are creamy and tender.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
- Stir in the heavy cream and green onions. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Divide the cooked grits among four plates. Top with the shrimp and sauce.
- Garnish with crumbled bacon and lemon slices.
