Shepard's Pie
A traditional British dish, Shepard's Pie is a hearty and comforting meal made with ground lamb, vegetables, and a creamy mashed potato topping.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Potatoes - 4 large, peeled and chopped
- Peas - 1 cup
- Chicken broth - 1 cup
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Carrots - 2, chopped
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Ground lamb - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground lamb, onion, carrots, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink.
- Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the peas and season with salt and pepper.
- Meanwhile, cook the potatoes in a large pot of boiling water until tender. Drain and mash with the butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish and top with the mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and the filling is bubbly.
