Samosa is a popular Indian snack made with a spicy potato filling and deep-fried pastry.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Salt - To taste
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Green chillies - 2, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, finely chopped
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green peas - 1/2 cup, boiled
- Potatoes - 2 large, boiled and peeled
Let's Get Started
- Mash the boiled potatoes and set aside.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the chopped ginger and green chillies.
- Add the mashed potatoes and green peas to the pan. Add the coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix the flour with a little oil and water to make a stiff dough. Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each one out into a circle. Cut each circle in half.
- Take one half of the circle and fold it into a cone shape. Fill the cone with the potato and peas mixture, then seal the edges using a little water.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and deep fry the samosas on low heat until golden brown.
- Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.
