  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cake is cool, roll out the pink fondant and place it over the cake, smoothing it down with your hands.
  9. Cut the cake into 12 equal pieces and serve.
