Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and minced garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the vegetables with the spices.
  5. Add the drained basmati rice to the skillet and stir to combine with the vegetables and spices.
  6. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  8. Remove the skillet from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley before serving.
