Let's Get Started

  1. Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact.
  2. In a large pot, combine the water, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon stick, and star anise.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Add the pears to the pot and reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pears are tender.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to remove the pears from the pot and set them aside to cool.
  6. Increase the heat to high and boil the syrup for 10-15 minutes, or until it is reduced by half.
  7. Drizzle the syrup over the pears and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
