Poached Pears

- Whipped cream - To serve
- Star anise - 2
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Water - 4 cups
- Pears - 4, ripe but firm
Let's Get Started
- Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact.
- In a large pot, combine the water, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon stick, and star anise.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the pears to the pot and reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pears are tender.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the pears from the pot and set them aside to cool.
- Increase the heat to high and boil the syrup for 10-15 minutes, or until it is reduced by half.
