Pizza Napoletana
A traditional Italian pizza with a thin, soft and chewy crust. Topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh basil, and extra-virgin olive oil.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Extra-virgin olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh basil leaves - A handful
- Fresh mozzarella cheese - 8 oz, sliced
- San marzano tomatoes - 1 can, crushed
- Pizza dough - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to its highest setting, typically 500 to 550°F. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one piece of dough into a thin, round circle.
- Spread a layer of crushed tomatoes over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Arrange slices of mozzarella cheese evenly over the tomatoes.
- Drizzle the pizza with olive oil and season with salt.
- If using a pizza stone, carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone in the oven. If not, place the pizza on a baking sheet and put it in the oven.
- Bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves.
- Repeat with the remaining pieces of dough and toppings.
- Slice and serve the pizza while it's still hot.
