Ingredients - Serves 8
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Mixed nuts - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Raisins - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Milk - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Butter - 1/2 cup, softened
- Sugar - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins and nuts.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the bread for about 45 minutes, or until it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
