Onion Braised Beef
A hearty and comforting dish, this Onion Braised Beef is slow-cooked until it's tender and flavorful.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Bay leaf - 1
- Thyme - 2 sprigs
- Red wine - 1 cup
- Beef broth - 2 cups
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2 large, thinly sliced
- Beef chuck roast - 3 pounds
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- Season the beef with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.
- Add the onions and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the beef broth, wine, thyme, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the beef to the pot, cover, and transfer to the oven.
- Braise for 2.5-3 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Remove the thyme and bay leaf before serving.
