Onion and Bacon Pizza
A delicious homemade pizza topped with crispy bacon and caramelized onions.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Fresh basil leaves - A handful
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Mozzarella cheese - 2 cups, shredded
- Bacon - 6 slices, chopped
- Onions - 2 medium, thinly sliced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Pizza dough - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook the bacon until it is crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. If you're using a pizza stone, transfer the dough to a pizza peel or an inverted baking sheet dusted with flour.
- Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the dough, leaving a border for the crust. Top with the cooked bacon and shredded mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone, if using) and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Top with fresh basil leaves, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Slice and serve.
