Ingredients - Serves 6

Let's Get Started

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, milk, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and stir to combine.
  4. Gradually add the flour to the bowl, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  9. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares or use a round cutter to make beignet shapes.
  10. Carefully drop a few beignets into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  11. Remove the beignets from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  12. Repeat the frying process with the remaining dough.
  13. Dust the warm beignets generously with powdered sugar before serving.
  14. Serve the beignets warm and enjoy!
