Nem Nuong
Nem Nuong is a popular Vietnamese dish made with grilled pork patties served with fresh herbs, lettuce, and a flavorful dipping sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Dipping sauce - For serving
- Rice paper wrappers - 8
- Fresh herbs (mint, cilantro, basil) - 1 cup, chopped
- Lettuce leaves - 8
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Shallots - 2, finely chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ground pork - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, minced garlic, chopped shallots, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Cover the bowl and let the mixture marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best flavor.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Divide the pork mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a small patty.
- Grill the pork patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the patties from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
- To serve, place a lettuce leaf on a rice paper wrapper. Top with a grilled pork patty and a handful of fresh herbs.
- Roll up the rice paper tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Serve the Nem Nuong with the dipping sauce on the side.
