Chao Tom
Chao Tom is a popular Vietnamese dish made with ground shrimp, wrapped around sugarcane skewers, and grilled to perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Dipping sauce - For serving
- Fresh herbs (mint, cilantro, basil) - For serving
- Rice paper - 8 sheets
- Lettuce leaves - 8 leaves
- Sugarcane skewers - 8 pieces
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shrimp - 1 pound, peeled and deveined
Let's Get Started
- In a food processor, blend the shrimp, garlic, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Take a small portion of the shrimp mixture and wrap it around a sugarcane skewer, forming a cylindrical shape.
- Repeat with the remaining shrimp mixture and skewers.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill the shrimp skewers for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the shrimp from the skewers.
- To serve, place a lettuce leaf on a rice paper sheet.
- Add a grilled shrimp skewer, fresh herbs, and roll it up tightly.
- Serve with dipping sauce.
