Naan
Naan is a soft and fluffy Indian-style bread that's perfect with curry or as a snack on its own.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Butter - For brushing
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Flour - 4 cups
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for 10 minutes, or until it's frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, milk, yogurt, and oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, or until it's smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 2 hours, or until it's doubled in size.
- Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece out into a thin circle.
- Cook each piece of dough for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until it's puffed up and has charred spots. Brush each piece with melted butter before serving.
