Multigrain Bread
A hearty, nutritious loaf packed with various whole grains and seeds. Perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- Sunflower seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Flax seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Multigrain cereal - 1/2 cup
- Bread flour - 1 1/2 cups
- Whole wheat flour - 1 1/2 cups
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Honey - 2 tablespoons
- Dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Warm water - 1 1/2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and honey. Let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the olive oil, whole wheat flour, bread flour, multigrain cereal, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, and salt. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise for another hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
