Miel de Chiverre
Miel de Chiverre is a traditional Costa Rican dessert made from chiverre squash, sugar, and spices. It's often enjoyed during the Easter season.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Lemon peel - 1 strip
- Cloves - 6
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Sugar - 2 cups
- Chiverre squash - 1 medium
Let's Get Started
- Cut the chiverre squash in half and remove the seeds.
- Place the squash in a large pot and cover with water. Boil until the squash is soft, about 1 hour.
- Drain the squash and let it cool. Once cool, scrape out the flesh and discard the skin.
- In a large pot, combine the squash flesh, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and lemon peel. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and turns a golden color, about 1 hour.
- Remove the cinnamon stick, cloves, and lemon peel. Let the mixture cool before serving.
