Meat Sauce
This homemade meat sauce is rich, flavorful, and perfect for pasta dishes.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Crushed tomatoes - 1 can (28 ounces)
- Tomato paste - 1/4 cup
- Tomato sauce - 2 cups
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cover.
- Let the sauce simmer for at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the meat sauce over your favorite pasta.
