Maritozzi are sweet buns from Rome, Italy. They are often filled with whipped cream, making them a delicious breakfast or dessert treat.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Whipped cream - 1 cup
- Butter - 1/4 cup, softened
- Eggs - 2
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 3 1/2 cups
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
- In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and butter to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a bun. Place the buns on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the buns for about 20 minutes, until they are golden brown.
- Let the buns cool, then slice them open and fill with whipped cream.
