Makaronilaatikko
Makaronilaatikko is a traditional Finnish dish made with macaroni, ground beef, and a creamy egg-milk mixture.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Milk - 500 ml
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 500 grams
- Macaroni - 300 grams
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is softened.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir well to combine.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.
- Grease a baking dish with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
- Layer half of the cooked macaroni in the baking dish, followed by half of the ground beef mixture.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining macaroni and ground beef.
- Pour the milk and egg mixture over the layers in the baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the mixture is set.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
