Leche Merengada
Leche Merengada is a traditional Spanish dessert, a frothy mix of milk, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon. It's often served chilled in the summer.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cinnamon powder - For garnish
- Egg whites - 2
- Lemon peel - Peel of 1 lemon
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Sugar - 200 grams
- Milk - 1 litre
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, cinnamon stick, and lemon peel. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, remove the cinnamon stick and lemon peel.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually fold the beaten egg whites into the cooled milk mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a container and freeze for at least 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent ice crystals from forming.
- Before serving, let the Leche Merengada soften at room temperature for a few minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon powder and serve.
