Kushari Balls
These delicious Kushari Balls are a twist on the traditional Egyptian dish, Kushari. They are crispy on the outside and filled with a flavorful mixture of rice, lentils, pasta, and spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Pasta - 1 cup, cooked
- Lentils - 1 cup, cooked
- Rice - 1 cup, cooked
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, lentils, and pasta.
- In a small pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the onion and spice mixture into the bowl with the rice, lentils, and pasta. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
- Roll each ball in breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer. Fry the kushari balls in batches until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the balls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the Kushari Balls hot as an appetizer or snack. They can be enjoyed on their own or with a dipping sauce of your choice.
