Knedle
Knedle are traditional Central European dumplings filled with plums and served with melted butter, breadcrumbs, and powdered sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup
- Plums - 8, pitted
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Potatoes - 4 large, boiled and mashed
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Take one portion of dough and flatten it in your hand.
- Place a pitted plum in the center of the dough and wrap the dough around the plum, sealing it completely.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and plums.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the breadcrumbs and cook until golden brown.
- Remove the cooked dumplings from the water and roll them in the buttered breadcrumbs.
- Serve the knedle warm, dusted with powdered sugar.
