Khoresht E Bamieh
Khoresht-e-Bamieh is a delicious Iranian stew made with okra, beef, and a flavorful tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Tomatoes - 2 medium, diced
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Okra - 250 grams, trimmed and halved
- Beef stew meat - 500 grams, cubed
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the beef stew meat and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato paste, turmeric, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the diced tomatoes and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.
- Add the okra to the pot and continue to simmer for an additional 30 minutes, or until the okra is cooked through.
- Stir in the lemon juice and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the Khoresht-e-Bamieh hot, garnished with fresh cilantro. Enjoy with steamed rice or bread.
