Karaage
Karaage is a popular Japanese dish of crispy and juicy bite-sized fried chicken.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Lemon wedges - For serving
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Chicken thighs - 500g, boneless and skinless, cut into bite-sized pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sake, grated ginger, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix all-purpose flour and cornstarch.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot for frying.
- Coat the marinated chicken pieces with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the fried chicken from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges for squeezing over the karaage.
