Japanese Okonomiyaki
Okonomiyaki is a savory Japanese pancake made with cabbage, flour, and various toppings.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Aonori (dried seaweed flakes) - 1/4 cup
- Bonito flakes - 1/4 cup
- Japanese mayonnaise - 1/4 cup
- Okonomiyaki sauce - 1/4 cup
- Tenkasu (tempura scraps) - 1/2 cup
- Bacon - 8 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Green onions - 4, chopped
- Eggs - 2
- Water - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Cabbage - 4 cups, shredded
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, all-purpose flour, water, eggs, and chopped green onions. Mix well until the batter is smooth.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the skillet and spread it into a round shape.
- Sprinkle some cooked and crumbled bacon and tenkasu (tempura scraps) on top of the batter.
- Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the okonomiyaki and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked okonomiyaki to a serving plate.
- Drizzle okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise on top of the okonomiyaki.
- Sprinkle bonito flakes and aonori (dried seaweed flakes) over the sauce and mayonnaise.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
