Indian Style Dahl
A hearty, comforting dish made from lentils, spices, and aromatic herbs. Perfect for a cozy dinner.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - 6-8
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 4 cups
- Red lentils - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, combine the lentils, water, turmeric, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils are soft, about 30 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it starts to brown, about 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and chili powder to the pan. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the onion and spice mixture to the pot with the lentils. Stir well to combine.
- Simmer the dahl for another 10 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Serve the dahl hot, with rice or naan bread on the side.
