Inarizushi
Inarizushi is a traditional Japanese dish made of sushi rice stuffed in seasoned aburaage (fried tofu pouches). It is sweet, savory, and delicious.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Pickled ginger - For serving
- Black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sushi rice - 2 cups, cooked
- Aburaage (fried tofu pouches) - 8 pieces
Let's Get Started
- Boil water in a pot and blanch the aburaage for 1 minute to remove excess oil. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate pot, combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil and add the aburaage. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool in the sauce.
- Once the aburaage is cool, gently squeeze out excess liquid.
- Open each aburaage pouch and stuff it with sushi rice. Press lightly to shape it.
- Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top of each inarizushi.
- Serve inarizushi with pickled ginger on the side.
