Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a large casserole dish, brown the beef in batches, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same dish, cook the onions, carrots, and garlic until softened.
  4. Return the beef to the dish, then add the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  5. Cover the dish and place in the oven for 1.5 hours.
  6. Remove the dish from the oven and stir in the potatoes and peas.
  7. Cover the dish again and return to the oven for another 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  8. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
