Gula Melaka Sago Pudding
This creamy and sweet Gula Melaka Sago Pudding is a popular Malaysian dessert made with sago pearls and palm sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Pandan leaves - 2 leaves
- Coconut milk - 1 cup
- Gula melaka (palm sugar) - 1 cup, grated
- Water - 4 cups
- Sago pearls - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the sago pearls and cook for 10-15 minutes until they turn translucent. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Drain the cooked sago pearls and rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch. Set aside.
- In another pot, combine the grated Gula Melaka, coconut milk, pandan leaves, salt, and 1/2 cup of water.
- Cook over medium heat until the Gula Melaka is fully melted and the mixture thickens slightly.
- Remove the pandan leaves from the mixture.
- Divide the cooked sago pearls into serving bowls.
- Pour the Gula Melaka mixture over the sago pearls.
- Allow the pudding to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
