Gruyere Cheese Fondue

Ingredients - Serves 4
- French bread - 1 loaf, cut into bite-sized cubes
- Freshly ground black pepper - To taste
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon, grated
- Kirsch (cherry brandy) - 2 tablespoons
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Dry white wine - 1 cup
- Gruyere cheese - 200 grams, grated
Let's Get Started
- Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the garlic cloves.
- Pour the wine into the pot and heat gently until hot, but not boiling.
- Gradually add the cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
- In a small bowl, blend the cornstarch smoothly with the kirsch, then stir into the cheese mixture.
- Continue to cook gently, stirring constantly until the mixture is thick and creamy.
- Do not allow it to boil.
- Season with nutmeg and pepper.
- Serve the fondue immediately with chunks of French bread for dipping.
