Gelato Con Brioche
A popular Sicilian street food, Gelato con Brioche is a sweet brioche bun filled with creamy gelato. It's a perfect treat for hot summer days.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Brioche buns - 4
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Heavy cream - 1 cup
- Egg yolks - 6
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Milk - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and half of the sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and the remaining sugar until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Once the gelato is ready, slice the brioche buns in half and fill with a scoop of gelato. Serve immediately.
