Garnalenkroket
A traditional Dutch delicacy, these shrimp croquettes are crispy on the outside and filled with a creamy shrimp filling.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Breadcrumbs - 200 grams
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Shrimp - 200 grams, peeled and chopped
- Milk - 500 ml
- Flour - 60 grams
- Butter - 50 grams
Let's Get Started
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and stir until a roux forms.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Cook for a few more minutes until it has the consistency of a thick béchamel sauce.
- Add the chopped shrimp to the sauce and season with salt and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Spread the mixture on a flat dish and let it cool completely. Once cooled, shape the mixture into small logs.
- Dip each log into the beaten eggs, then roll in the breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large, deep saucepan to 180°C (350°F).
- Fry the croquettes in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve the shrimp croquettes hot with a side of tartare sauce or a squeeze of lemon.
