French Onion Mac and Cheese

Ingredients - Serves 6

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Stir in the flour until it coats the onions and garlic.
  5. Slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
  7. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses until melted.
  8. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and add to the cheese sauce.
  9. Stir in the thyme, salt, and pepper.
  10. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
