Flan Cubano
Flan Cubano is a traditional Cuban dessert, a rich and creamy caramel custard served chilled.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Evaporated milk - 1 can (12 ounces)
- Sweetened condensed milk - 1 can (14 ounces)
- Eggs - 5
- Water - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup is golden brown.
- Pour the caramel syrup into a flan mold or round baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom and sides. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Pour the egg mixture into the caramel-coated mold.
- Place the mold in a larger baking dish and add enough hot water to the larger dish to come halfway up the sides of the mold.
- Bake for 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the mold from the water bath and let cool. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until well chilled.
- To serve, run a knife around the edge of the mold to loosen the flan, then invert onto a serving plate.
