Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup is golden brown.
  3. Pour the caramel syrup into a flan mold or round baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom and sides. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract and mix well.
  5. Pour the egg mixture into the caramel-coated mold.
  6. Place the mold in a larger baking dish and add enough hot water to the larger dish to come halfway up the sides of the mold.
  7. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove the mold from the water bath and let cool. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until well chilled.
  9. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the mold to loosen the flan, then invert onto a serving plate.
