Fish Molee
Fish Molee is a Kerala style fish stew made with coconut milk. This mild, flavorful dish is perfect for those who love the taste of coconut milk and fish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Curry leaves - a few
- Thin coconut milk - 1 cup
- Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
- Garlic - 4 cloves, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, finely chopped
- Green chilies - 2, slit
- Onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fish fillets - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder, lemon juice, and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish fillets until they turn golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the sliced onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Saute until the onions turn soft.
- Add the thin coconut milk and some salt. Bring it to a boil.
- Add the fried fish fillets and curry leaves. Cover and cook on a low flame for about 10 minutes.
- Add the thick coconut milk and gently stir. Cook for another 5 minutes on a low flame.
- Turn off the flame and let the curry rest for a while before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
