Feijão de Leite
Feijão de Leite is a traditional Brazilian dish, a creamy and delicious combination of beans and milk. It's a unique twist on the classic bean stew.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Bay leaf - 1
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Milk - 1 cup
- Black beans - 2 cups, soaked overnight
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the soaked beans and place them in a large pot. Add enough water to cover the beans by about 2 inches.
- Bring the beans to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the beans are tender.
- In a separate pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they are soft and fragrant.
- Add the sautéed onion and garlic, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the pot with the beans. Stir well.
- Pour in the milk and stir again. Continue to cook the beans on low heat for another hour, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the beans and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve the Feijão de Leite hot, with rice or bread on the side.
