  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes, until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness and cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  8. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  10. Dip each doughnut into the glaze, coating both sides, and place them on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
