Damper

Ingredients - Serves 6

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
  3. Rub the butter into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk and water.
  5. Mix together until you have a soft dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking tray. Use a sharp knife to cut a cross into the top of the loaf.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the damper is golden brown and sounds hollow when you tap it on the bottom.
