Croustade aux Pommes Gasconne
A traditional French dessert from the Gascony region, featuring layers of crispy, buttery pastry filled with sweet, caramelized apples.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Puff pastry - 2 sheets
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Apples - 6, peeled and sliced
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large pan, melt the butter and add the apples, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the apples are soft and caramelized.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it in a pie dish. Fill with the caramelized apples.
- Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and place it over the apples. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy.
- Allow to cool before serving.
