Cottage Pie
Cottage pie is a classic British dish made with ground beef, vegetables, and topped with mashed potatoes.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Worcestershire sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Beef broth - 1 cup
- Frozen peas - 1 cup
- Carrots - 2, diced
- Onion - 1, diced
- Ground beef - 1 pound
- Potatoes - 2 pounds, peeled and diced
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Boil the diced potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced onion, carrots, and minced garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked ground beef back to the skillet. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, frozen peas, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mash the cooked potatoes with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture to a baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let the cottage pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
