Collard Greens with Bacon
A southern classic, these collard greens are cooked with bacon for a savory, hearty side dish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Chicken broth - 2 cups
- Collard greens - 1 pound, washed and chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Bacon - 4 slices
Let's Get Started
- Cook the bacon in a large pot over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the collard greens to the pot and cook until they start to wilt, about 5 minutes.
- Add the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the greens are tender.
- Crumble the cooked bacon and stir it into the greens before serving.
