Let's Get Started

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in yeast mixture, eggs, raisins, candied fruit, almonds, and rum. Knead until dough comes together.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down dough and knead again briefly. Shape into a loaf and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, or until golden brown. Allow to cool, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
